Remember the old saying, a picture is worth more than a thousand words.
Seven questions you should ask your wedding photographer.
1. How long have you been a professional photographer and what experience do
you have photographing weddings?
This will tell you the level of experience of the photographer.
In my case, 39 years involved in the professional photography business with
over 370 weddings photographed.
2. What percentage of your income comes from photography?
This will tell you if you are dealing with a full time professional,
a part timer who has another job, or a weekend warrior who is trying to make
some extra money.
In my case, 100% of my income always has come from photography related
business.
3. Can you shoot the wedding using film?
This will tell you if the photographer has a solid technical, photographic
knowledge and skills. There are many who can operate a digital camera and make
an acceptable image, but few who can shoot film with a professional film camera
with outstanding results.
I in turn still shoot film, the vast majority of my weddings were shot using film,
digital technology was fully implemented in 2003 after several years of testing
and training
4. Will you be the one who is going to photograph my wedding and how many jobs
do you have schedule for that weekend?
Are you speaking with the actual photographer or a salesman or business owner.
I will be your photographer and in charge of any assistants and I only book one
wedding or job per weekend.
5. Is there an assistant photographer included with professional backup
equipment?
This will indicate the type of business the photographer is operating.
There is always an assistant photographer present with me. We both have
professional grade backups of all the equipment we use.
6. Can you provide a sample album of a complete wedding event?
Have you seen some album samples from different photographers, most are a
collection of great photographs but from different events.
There always a few great shots in every event, but can they deliver the quality
images throughout the whole event?
Let us show you our albums from start to finish.
7. Are the original negatives or digital files available for purchase?
There are a lot of "pros" offering 'shoot and burn' services, including all the files
on a CD for a very low price, sadly there is also a lot of disappointed brides when
they see the results from their local photo lab.
I in turn do not sell the original negatives or files, not only I take the photos, but
also do the image editing and retouching, design the wedding album. Prints and
albums are then printed only by the highest quality professional photo labs and
album makers. By keeping control of the whole process, it will guarantee only the
highest quality professional results.
